Columns ads not only hot on print media, its online counterpart, especially free personal classified ads, has been dramatically said to be sooo.. popular these days, that even the top player Craiglist was once said could easily generate $500 million/year by only adding 1-2 paid ad banners per page, if they were to do so, which apparently they were not for some good reasons.

By almost any measure, Craigslist is a phenomenal success. It was once said to be the 7th most popular web site in the world, according to various web visitors traffic estimators. The free online-classifieds site had become the nightmare of newspaper executives everywhere it launched a list. While it did not release financial statements, no one doubts that it has been comfortably profitable since 1999, about the time most other dot-com boom started running out of cash.

Personal advertisements are free, like Craiglist’s CEO Jim Buckmaster put it nicely, “We’re much more comfortable charging companies than charging individuals, as businesses are better equipped to afford a small fee”, suggesting free personal ads one are much more favored by the mass.
