End of year holidays sales, projected at US$26 billions or up 18% from the same period last year, is accounting for about one third of the projected US$80 billions of total online sales in 2006 according to Jupiter Research.

iPod Nano MP3 PlayerOn another survey by Nielsen/NetRatings, online sales are still lead by sales of music MP3s, CDs, videos & books with year to year increase at big 238 percent, while also found users are getting more and more comfortable buying apparel online as it’s exhibiting strong year-to-year growth of 38 percent. By 2010 apparel is expected to be one of the biggest online sales categories.

For those who like to do last minutes shopping, according to August Partners, the top five last minute holiday gifts are: gift cards (20%), then CDs, DVDs, and books (19%), perfume (15%), jewelry & accessories (10%) and gift of food baskets (9%).

Also revealed that more and more potential buyers do research for product info such as its features, specifications and prices comparison online before later doing purchase offline. Online buyers are becoming more savvy for branded & comparable stuff. While those who eventually do purchase offline, usually doing it just to ensure they’re in control for getting the stuff right before Christmas.

Surveys have been consistently exhibiting that offline sales are growing at only a few percent per year while online sales are growing at 25 percent, consumers are definitely moving from the offline sales channel to online sales.
